What do you mean by janky?

If you have the Philips Arena.  You need to install a MTS  Arena update.

I fixed the janky ice already via the Wasserlasser Toolbox - basically the ice surface wasn't properly aligned with the area, but it's fixed now.

Noted on tracking down the MTS Arena update.

That might be the problem.   There should be no other folders in the my documents/nhl09 folder other than the 2 exhibition files, users file and any other file that came with the folder.

Did you move the folder or the files?

Sorry I should have clarified - the zipped items folder is kept in a folder in the Documents folder *separate* from the NHL09 folder which only contains the three files you mentioned

FWIW, I just installed the addon package using the Wasserlasser Toolbox. Not all of the logos are properly aligned, Winnipeg still seems to play in Philips Arena, and the ice surface is janky (just a few of the issues I've noticed after five minutes of poking around). But at least I'm closer to having this figured out and the rosters, logos, and jerseys are installed, so I'll try fiddling with things to see if I can make it all work.

Otherwise many, many thanks for your help and for your patience

When you unzip the files.  Do they all go in the main game folder and not a folder inside the main game folder?

I have a separate folder in My Documents where I keep zipped files I've d/l'ed. I unzip the folders from there and distribute the files either as instructed by the Read Me's or via the batch files (if that's what the instructions in Read Me files tell me to do)

You said that you are playing on a laptop. The game doesn't support laptops.

If you did indeed install the rosters correctly.  Make sure hardware acceleration and anti-aliasing is off.

I just uninstalled the game, deleted associated files, re-installed the game and ran a test game (without downloading and installing any addons) and everything worked fine - loading, the exhibition game, menus, etc (gameplay was a little choppy but I can try to address that later). This was all done on my laptop and I played the game a lot on my old circa-2009 Sony Vaio.

I'm following the ReadMe files with each download file and in the order of folder 0 -> 1 -> 2 -> 3 -> 4 so I'm guessing that either there's a step that I'm missing during installation that's not covered in the ReadMe's or there's something wrong with the files. My next step is to try running an earlier version of the addons but I'm wondering if the addons also affect the game in such a way that would cause it to crash even if it was installed properly and even if the files are fine. I'm just running out of ideas.

tinpanalley:  Yes.  The teams are scattered.

lenordique: The Full Screen Optimization is in the same spot as the compatibility option after you right click on nh09.exe and select preperties.

Found the menu, made the adjustments, and still the same issue with crashing at launch, about right before the EA Games logo should come on screen

lenordique:  Make sure you set the compatibility to Vista SP2 and disable Full Screen optimizations

tinpanalley:  The menu file has the logos.  The arenas file have the ice.  There are other files that are in different files.  The referees are now in the Arena files as well.

I set the compatibility to Vista SP2 and launched the game but same crash as before. For some reason I can't disable Full Screen Optimization on my laptop (in the attached photo, the left window is the browser where I searched for solutions and the right window is the panel on my laptop that's missing the option to disable Full Screen Optimization)

FWIW, Madden 08 runs fine. I'm wondering if I should try with an earlier version of the addon files

Do you have UAC turned off.  If not.  Turn it off.  Restart your computer.   Run BHImport again.  See if it works.  If not.  Backup both your main game folder and your my documents\nhl 09 folder.

Until the game.  Delete both NHL 09 folders. Restart your computer. Install the game and then reinstall the addons. See if that works.

Just followed these instructions...uninstalled the game, deleted the folders, restarted the computer, reinstalled the game, tried running it and it worked fine, downloaded a new version of the addons from the link at the top of the post, installed the addon folders in the order 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 following the instructions in each folder, doublechecked the contents of the Doc folder, tried running the game and it crashed on launch, ran the BHImport again, tried to run the game again and it crashed on launch.

FWIW, I'm on a Windows 10 with intel Core i5

  8. So I downloaded and installed NHL 09, screwed it up by installing things wrong, uninstalled it & deleted the files, reinstalled it and then tried installing Elite Rosters immediately and following the Read Me files that came with it and doing nothing else but now the game crashes on launch...any ideas what I've done wrong?
